How to Help
You can buy us a coffee if you want.
If you’re a webminister and you want to incorporate our map into your website, then you absolutely have permission to link to our site or embed it; a link back here suffices as credit. If you encounter any issues, please contact us.
If your local group doesn't currently have a calendar, we recommend you create one! This isn't just useful for resources like EventScout; it also makes it easier for your group's members and newcomers to keep track of when and where your different practices are. We recommend embedding a Google Calendar in your group's website and marking any cancellations clearly on the Google Calendar. This lets people subscribe directly to your calendar, so they can get reminders about practices or get a notification if you put an extra A&S night on the calendar - without having to check Facebook. Best practice is to create the calendar using your webminister's email rather than your personal email, so it's easy to hand it off to the next officer and ensure it stays maintained; you can give edit access to any other officers who need to be able to edit events if a practice is moved or cancelled.
If you're an event steward or help maintain Kingdom or Baronial calendars, the best thing you can do to help us is make sure that your calendar is easy for us to import. Put a simple address in the 'location' field - eg. "123 Medieval Road, Historytown, Dreamland" - not "Sir John's farm, you know, the usual place, turn left off highway 16 after the big oak tree". Any additional text - such as directions, entry passcodes, or credit to the owner of the site - should go in the description field, never in the location field. Using a consistent format for items that shouldn't be mapped, like deadlines for officers' reports, will help tools like ours to filter those events out - and also help your newcomers know which things on your calendar they don't need to worry about.
Spotted an error? You can submit a calendar if we're missing your local group, or contact us with any other issues or questions.
We use tools such as Nominatim, Leaflet, OpenStreetMap and Photon for geocoding and mapping events. We would love to upgrade our geocoding - please let us know if you can help!
We'd love to be able to link to other resources which may help (eg. a guide for webministers on how to create a Google Calendar for your group and embed it into your group's website) - let us know if you have a resource we should link to!
